Opa-Opa Steakhouse and Brewery

On the way to Springfield, MA to see some family, Devon and I deviated from the Mass Pike to enjoy a lunch at the Opa-Opa Steakhouse and Brewery. At only 7 miles from the Mass Pike, it was easy to get to. There we enjoyed some good barbecue.

The name 'Steakhouse' is well-deserved. The atmosphere is very much that of a Texas restaurant, with the cowboy motif played well. Dark wood, midwest adornments, and country music make this a seemingly authentic cowboy steakhouse. Admittedly, it has been some years since I've been in an authentic midwest steakhouse, so I might be wrong.

I had a pint of the Buckwheat IPA, while Devon passed on beer for the day. The buckwheat was a decent IPA. Properly amber, and very bitter. Perhaps a bit too bitter, and not hoppy enough. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't call it a session beer.

As for the food, I had a barbecue chicken sandwich, and Devon had a pulled pork sandwich. No steaks at a steakhouse? Well, it was at about 11:30 in the morning, and I was still recovering from a wisdom tooth extraction. I enjoyed the barbecue sauce that both sandwiches were drenched with, but Devon found it a bit too sweet for her liking. Other than that, she enjoyed her sandwich, and I enjoyed mine. Though, the real treat was the excellent potato wedges that accompanied both.

This was brewpub #25, and we walked out with pint glass #36. A cute glass with a cowboy on a yellow logo. And yes, while we were there all Devon could think of was an Oompa Loompa song.
