A couple weekends ago, Devon and I went to Cave Mountain Brewing in Windham, NY. A nice little town in the northern Catskills that sits in the shadow of Windham and Cave mountains. It reminded me a lot of Hunter mountain, the site of TAP-NY.
We both had buffalo chicken wraps, and I had two beers (It was a Sunday - $2 Beer Mug day! And $8 growler fills, which brings to mind the fact that I always need to keep a growler in the car!) . The buffalo chicken wraps were good, as were the mountain of fries that came with them.
For beers I had the always-available Centennial IPA, and the limited-release Chinook IPA. The Centennial is what an IPA should be: hoppy. Powerful floral aroma, nice bitterness, but not overwhelmingly so. I think this is where the Chinook IPA didn't live up to the Centennial's standard; It was too bitter, not hoppy enough. The naming I found interesting, leads me to believe they might be the same recipe, just the Centennial is made with centennial hops, and the Chinook with chinook. The Chinook was good, don't get me wrong, but the Centennial was better.
And yes, afterwards we went for a hike. Unfortunately, since we started it so late we didn't quite make it up to the peak of Windham. Maybe next time!
